ROBERT ARNER'S BIO
For 44 years I have worked on water quality improvement programs and resource management issues. I have experience in implementing all types of conservation programs in the Washington DC, area and in other parts of the U.S. and abroad. Also, have provided technology transfer and technical assistance in all aspects of pollution prevention.
For over 48 years, I have taught tennis all over the U.S. Most of his coaching has been in the Washington DC Area. In 1983, I became a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association instructing at area clubs, schools, resorts and indoor courts. For over 25 years, I worked with World Champion Pauline Betz Addie.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Public Speaking
I have over one hundred public speaking appearances to civic organizations, non profit groups, schools, churches, regional, state and federal organizations. I've given papers and educational presentations to numerous state, national and international environmental conferences besides helping develop numerous environmental state and national associations. I've testified before every level of government including United States Congress. And have made tennis presentations to thousands of individuals and clinics at parks, clubs and organizations throughout the United States.
Writing
I have written four articles that were printed in the Washington Post Outlook Section since 1994. I've published numerous articles featured in various national environmental publications, and as well I wrote a weekly column during the course of two years for an environmental web site over. I have also presented technical papers to numerous local, state, national and international conferences regarding resource protection and best management practices.

Environmental Consultant
Recovery Enterprises - Edinburg, VA, April 1991- June 2014 — Providing recycling, waste and water improvement technical assistance to various clients, including Pure Water Forum, Northern Virginia Regional Commission, Social Invest Forum, Southeast RCAP, Holmans Creek Watershed Committee, VerticalNet, Inc., International Executive Service Corp, Davis Memorial Goodwill Industries, Softspikes Golf Cleats, Eastern Research Group, National Recycling Coalition, USEPA, Booz Allen and Hamilton, Giant Food, and Wilson Sporting Goods.
Pollution Prevention Specialist
Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project- Edinburg VA, February 2002 to October 2004 — Implementing an innovative program to reduce agricultural and homeowner pollution called Well Aware. This water quality improvement project was conducted over 20 workshops, 350 home water tests, 30 site evaluations and numerous other forms of assistance to various communities in Virginia. The primary focus is to identify homeowners’ impacts and provide corrective actions where necessary. Also conducted numerous solid waste and recycling projects in the area of composting, automotive fluid recovery and landfill clean-up.
Solid Waste Program Manager / Environmental Planner
Northern Virginia Planning District Commission - Annandale, VA, June 1992 to February 2000 — Program Manager for the Northern Virginia Waste Management Board; development, coordination and implementation of waste reduction, recycling, composting, pollution prevention, hazardous waste management and various other environmental conservation programs.
Recycling Manager
East End Recycling Association - Southampton, NY, July 1989 to April 1991— Assisted in more than doubling the recycling rate for five townships on Eastern Long Island. Managed a $250K state grant and implemented an extensive public education campaign on waste reduction, recycling and pollution prevention for five towns. Also provided market development to these communities and assisted in opening three permanent household hazardous waste collection centers by forming a cooperative alliance.
Environmental Scientist
Versar, Inc. - Springfield, VA, September 1987 to January 1989 — Provided technology transfer and technical assistance in all aspects of pollution prevention. Clients included the USEPA, and various private and governmental organizations.
Manager
Eastern Oil, Inc. - Alexandria, VA, 1981 to 1982 — Assisted in the construction and operation of Eastern Oil’s first used oil recycling plant, and supervised the annual processing of ten million gallons of oil.
Energy Program Specialist
District of Columbia Energy Office – Washington, D. C. 1980 to 1981— Assisted in various energy conservation programs including used oil recycling and other projects.
